Our Story

Empowering Change

Founded in 2005 by Dr. Heather W. Hackman, Hackman Consulting Group is a cadre of highly experienced teachers, leaders and experts in their fields who are also highly skilled trainers. We love what we do and more importantly we have a passionate and unyielding commitment to bringing about equitable and empowering change to organizations, our communities, and our society as a whole. While HCG has developed a core group of lead trainers, we frequently partner with an array of colleagues across the field to provide our clients with the most current and effective consulting and training.

Meet the Team

Heather Hackman

CEO & Lead Trainer

With a career in social justice education since 1992, Heather (she/her) is a former professor and the founder of Hackman Consulting Group. Specializing in racism, gender oppression, and climate justice, she's dedicated her life to teaching and consulting on equity and social justice issues. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Justice Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has developed comprehensive training on racism, white privilege, and inclusivity. She's an acclaimed author and co-editor of "Readings for Diversity and Social Justice." Heather's work extends to corporate training, integrating social justice with organizational trust frameworks. Her efforts in advocacy, research, and education highlight her commitment to addressing systemic inequities across various sectors.

Tynishia Walker

Operations Manager & Lead Trainer  

Tynishia (she/they) has over a decade of experience supporting organizations embed principles of racial and gender equity into everything they do. Most of her work has focused on working inside large organizations supporting an increase in staff’s knowledge, skill and capacity related to how they can do their part in moving equity forward. Tynishia earned their Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan with a focus on community organizing and social justice education.

Rachel Gilbert

Trainer

Rachel Gilbert (she/her) is a proven leader at the intersection of environmental engineering and social justice with over two decades of experience in the consulting sector as a water resources engineer. She is a passionate advocate for racial equity education informed by a commitment to holistic problem-solving and recognizing the inextricable link between humanity and the environment as a guiding principle in shaping approaches and strategies.

T.J. Jourian

Trainer

T.J. Jourian (he/him) is an independent scholar, consultant, and trainer with 20+ years of experience. His training and consulting work has included assessment and strategic planning with professional associations, nonprofits, educational institutions, and more. Centering trans and queer people of color's experiences and epistemologies, his research examines race, gender, and sexuality in higher education, with particular attention to masculinity and trans masculine students, and campus gender and sexuality centers and practitioners. T.J. earned his Master’s in student affairs administration (with a multicultural education cognate) at Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in higher education at Loyola University Chicago

Jessica Tsadwa

Trainer

Jessica Tsadwa, Ph.D. (she/her) earned her doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Arizona. Her dissertation centered on the impact of discourse on racial identity development theory. Her work is driven, in part, by her experience navigating racial narratives while growing up in the Midwest. Before transitioning to health equity work and joining HCG as a trainer, Jessica worked in higher education for a decade advancing equity and inclusion.
